What is the Transition Nelson Housing Group Aiming to do?
The building industry is a big user of fossil fuels and other finite resources. Our aim is to look at ways to build and live more sustainably for the future.
Which projects are the Housing Group involved in?
The group agreed to focus on three key areas:
1. Insulation. We believe there is an opportunity for a project combining grants and bulk purchase of materials in order to be able to offer discounts with a requirement to attend an evening workshop on how to install the insulation correctly. The workshops would be supported by advice and instruction leaflets.
2. Rainwater collection and storage. We propose to lobby the council to provide discounted materials for DIY rainwater collection on the same basis as composting bins have been provided. This initiative would also be supported by workshops and advice/instructions
3. Wood burners: We propose to lobby the council to extend the criteria for fire replacement to include installation of high efficiency wood burners.
When do they Meet?
The Housing group isn't currently meeting at the moment, you may however like to join or attend the Energy groups next meeting which also has an interest in housing. Please go through to our events and meetings calendar and find out when the Energy Group next meets or look at their home page.
