Transition Towns are all about our community coming together to collectively prepare and create local solutions to reduce the impacts of Climate Change and Peak Oil. None of us are quite sure what those solutions will be, but we do believe that if we are innovative and proactive, life in the future could be far “richer” than the one we live today. We all have a valuable contribution to make and to be involved in any way – be it big or small- you can help build this unstoppable momentum of change.
Have a special interest or passion?
- Join a topic group. There is a list of Groups on the sidebar menu on the left side of the screen. Click any of them and you will see a person to contact who can tell you more. There is something contagious about being surrounded by a group of likeminded people on a mission – the interesting thing is, you get back as much as you give out!
- Get involved in a project. Click on a “Group” in the sidebar menu that interests you to find out what projects they are involved in. There are some great projects underway already and many other ideas are emerging.
- Start a new group or project. If what interests you is not represented contact us and tell us what you would like to do. All ideas are welcome! Some groups that would be great to see start are a “Preparedness group” (meeting to discuss knowledge, skills and resources) or Honouring the elderly (collecting oral histories of those who have lived pre 1940’s in times of leaner energy consumption a valuable resource).
Have time?
- Have skills you would like to Volunteer? There are numerous times when Transition Nelson could use an extra set of hands or feet. Sometimes it’s specialised like skills in media or websites other times its help setting up for an event, typing up minutes. Please contact us and let us know if we can call on you even occasionally.
- Offer your skills, contacts or knowledge to help out a group or specific Project. You can contact the Group directly by clicking the group in the side bar menu or let us know about it.
- Something you would like to Help Organize or run e.g. showing a special movie, a speaker….?.... contact us to have a chat about it.
Something material to give?
- Support a project financially or Donate something useful needed by a Groups project. You can contact the Group directly by clicking the Group in the side bar menu or let us know.
Something you want?
- Have a look at the projects and see if there’s one that’s relevant. For instance if you want to start a garden but currently don’t have one then contact the No Dig Garden workshops group and attend one of their workshops. If you want more contact with likeminded people then join the Community Group.
- Check out skills on offer or surplus goods on offer.
