What is the Transition Nelson Community Group Aiming to do?
The Transition Nelson Community Group are exploring ways to actively rebuild community around us and support each other in the “transition”. As life becomes more relocalised, getting to know our neighbours and sharing skills and knowledge will help build social cohesion giving us, as a community, a huge resource to draw on.
Which projects are the Community Group involved in?
a) Establish Neighbourhood Support Groups in our own areas as a first step of linking with our neighbours (all those with groups already in place or having neighbourhood get-togethers...well done!).
b) Establish close links with Rotary, Lions, Probus clubs and Grey Power in our region. This builds on existing community groups, so no need to start reinventing wheels. By harnessing these organisations we'll be able to strengthen the linkages between the various groups instead of these groups working separately.
c) Develop an active community skills database and skill-sharing network.
d) Head up a monthly meeting space/forum for other Transition Nelson groups.
